Updates…We’re Moving!

People!  Friends!  Clients!  South Tulsa!  USA!

We are moving our main operation down the street to
7424 S Yale and will open that new location on June 2!

Back in 2014 (I believe) I rented a room at the Maxey building just off 91st and Yale in Tulsa for my private practice work which was just a couple years old at the time.  It was scary and a stretch to rent that room.  It was expensive for me, and I prayed, and moved forward with confidence that private practice at the Maxey Building was a good idea.

Fast forward to this year and we occupy 13 of the building's 18 rooms and have made it a goal this year to get our own dedicated place. With 22 team members it was time.

We found a really good option at 7424 S Yale, situated in a complex with several other referral partners including a great pediatric clinic and psychiatry office who partner with us already.

We took the dive and will move in to the new space on May 29 and open for business June 2nd.

There is much planning, expense, and details to attend to with this move, and I feel confident it is a great next evolution for Chris King Counseling.

This move for our "HQ" will also precede a branding name change for the entire company at the end of the summer.  These changes are all indications that our growth in our community is sustainable, stable, and vital.  The move is an adjustment away from my private practice where I have hired other therapists to join me in the work that I do, to a therapy group aligned around the ideas of providing healing and growth through relational mental health therapy, and the core values that inform that mission.

GPS therapies is a group that will serve individuals and families into the 22nd century and be a beacon where great people provide great therapy to great clients and families. Join us!

Lastly, please be our eyes and ears of support and also accountability.  When we need correction- let us know.  When you feel like we need a loving word or action of support- let us know.  We are here to serve you.  Look for an open house for the new facility and come check it out!  For today though, please read on!!

The Pod is getting all psychological this spring

After wrapping up our mini series on the healing power of music, we shift to subject matter that includes things that we deal with every day at the office.  Episodes about:

  • Turning Trauma into healing and leadership

  • the use of Parts work in therapy

  • And most recently, the impact of sleep and how friends of ours are doing revolutionary work treating nightmares

Coming up in May also we talk with Psychiatrist Natalie Vassar on the impact of medication on ADHD and its relationship to depression, anxiety, and what families can do to help each other when faced with these challenges.

Spring retreat was awesome!

30 of our closest friends joined us for "Whole Hearted Help" a learning summit in downtown Tulsa on April 17 and 18.

It was 12 hours of education and connection between therapists, most of whom are in our group, but also including several others in different practices who joined us.

I have always maintained that our community is saturated with experts. The counseling community on a local level contains so many great therapists with their own excellent and innovative approaches.  It would be a shame if we failed to learn from each other.  Our annual spring retreat (which is free for our team) meets this goal of education and connection for these great providers.

Topics included:

  • Somatic Therapy with Jenifer Nold LPC

  • Psychopharmacology with Dr Nataly Vassar

  • Ethics with Stacey Burgess LCSW

  • Diversity best practices with Anna Smith LPC

  • Mindfulness and Orientation with Chris King LPC (thats me)

  • Diagnosis best practices with Tim Doty PhyD

A massive thanks to Elote for providing great food, Leadership Tulsa for a great venue, all of our presenters, and Maggie King Robinson for promotions and pictures!
