Over the top October
Since I last wrote, four big things have happened in the GPS Therapy world—and October has truly been one for the books.
1. Our Tulsa Open House (September 29)
We hosted an open house at our new Tulsa location (7424 S Yale), and it was incredible. The pictures on social media didn’t do it justice—especially since my photographer (my daughter, Maggie King) had to cancel. That was tough, but she's family, and I give her grace.
Despite that, the turnout was amazing. The energy was full of gratitude. The team showed up in fresh GPS Therapies shirts, the hallways were decorated with our mission statement and themed art, and meaningful conversations happened everywhere you looked.
I got to connect with school leaders, healthcare professionals, long-time friends, people we’ve served, and even my high school basketball coach, who deeply impacted my life. Everywhere I turned, I heard:
“Great job!”
“This place is awesome!”
“Keep up the important work!”
It was three straight hours of encouragement and positive feedback—a true reminder of why we do what we do. Some days don’t need to be like this, but some absolutely do. It was… orienting—a perfect word for how it realigned us with our purpose.
Huge thanks to Emma, Carly, Andrea, and the whole team for pulling it off. And to everyone who came—or even just called or texted—thank you for believing in us and celebrating this milestone.
2. Back to Earth: Soonercare Challenges
On the other side of the spectrum, we’ve been navigating major changes with Oklahoma’s Medicaid program, Soonercare. Over the past two years, the shift to managed care companies has caused serious disruption—for us and for many clients. People have lost coverage, contract processes for new clinicians have stalled with no clear resolution, and communication has been chaotic.
Please say a prayer for us as we work through it. And a massive thank-you to Daniel Hall (billing), Amanda Bierma, and Jody Fowler (our newest admin team member!) for working so hard to advocate for our therapists and clients.
3. Utah Trip: A Needed Reset
My wife, our dogs, our bikes, and I spent a couple of weeks in Utah—hiking, biking, and working remotely. It was deeply refreshing.
Surrounded by the stunning canyons and mountains of the Southwest, I felt reminded of how fortunate I am, and how committed I remain to helping people heal and grow. If you can get away—whether for a weekend or a few weeks—do it. Breathe. Stretch. Let your vision expand.
And shout-out to our incredible team for keeping things running smoothly while I was away.
4. A Record-Breaking September
Last month, GPS Therapies delivered over 1,700 appointments—our biggest service month ever. That’s more people getting the help they need. We remain grounded in our mission: to help where we can, and if we can’t, to connect people with someone who can.
Stay with Us on the Journey
We’re grateful to be growing and serving—and we want to stay connected with you. If someone in your circle needs support, send them our way. And don’t hesitate to reach out with ideas, concerns, or ways we can partner with your community to make a difference.
Onward to the holiday season—hard to believe the year is already winding down! I look forward to connecting with you soon.
- Chris
